Top Chefs Cook at CIA Headquarters

Sexy Antonio SosaSpicy Kung pao

The chefs are invited to a place where few have been granted access, the CIA kitchen.

In this preview video, you will see the remaining Top Cheftestants, including sexy Antonio Sosa, cooking up Kung Pao. Who will win this spicy challenge is a mystery, until the show airs tonight.

Sexy Top Cheftestant Angelo Sosa

Chef Angelo Sosa

Angelo describes his culinary creations as if he is talking about a woman. His vegetables are luscious, his entree’s are sexy and he confesses that he ‘makes love” to his food.  This could all sound ultra cheesy, but somehow this Asian-inspired chef pulls it off.

Angelo is my pick to win, and I do admit it is partly due to his charm that makes everything he creates appear like a passionate romantic kiss — I mean dish. He’s won a bevy of challenges, showing he’s worthy of his sexy chef ways.

This half Dominican and half Italian, passion fruit drinking,  simplicity-seeking chef is a fusion of cultures in the modern kitchen — and I want to eat in it. As he says, “The soul of his cuisine is ancient but reincarnated as an adventure that is young and daring.”

Follow Angelo on Twitter.

Top Chef Battle of the Brothers

Bryan Voltaggio

Kudos to Bryan!

My pick Bryan Voltaggio is still in the running to become the next Top Chef. He’s the cool and calm cheftestant known for classic flavor profiles and farm fresh ingredients. Bryan won the main challenge last night, proving that he can out cook, out taste, and out plate the remaining cheftestants.

Michael Voltaggio

Good Job Michael!

Michael Voltaggio is also in the running to be the next Top Chef.  He’s the out-of-the-box brother who is hell-bent on beating Bryan. With his Quick-Fire challenge win this week he’s nipping at Bryan’s heels. This brotherly rivalry will make the upcoming finale scrumptiously compelling.

Kevin Gillespie

Yay for Kevin!

Kevin Gillespie is the third cheftestant still in the running to become the next Top Chef. He’s the smart one who wow’s the judges with his simple cooking techniques. He didn’t win anything last night, but let’s not forget all his winning dishes and perfectly prepared plates.

Jennifer Carroll

Bye Bye to Jennifer!

Jennifer Carrol lumbered away from the Judges Table last night to pack up her knives, defeated and teary-eyed. At first, it appeared that she had a fighting chance, but looking back it is easy to see that as talented as she is in the kitchen, the other 3 cheftestants are just a little bit more talented.

A Meal Fit for a Finale

In honor of Jennifer Carroll, I will be preparing one of her winning dishes, “Poached Halibut in a Whiskey, Bourbon and Scotch Sauce”, to eat during the finale. Yes, it is important to prepare and plate the most delicious and well-executed dish to eat while the judges are tasting the cheftestants’ food.

Top Chef Bryan Voltaggio’s Volt Restaurant

Good News!

You don’t have to be a Top Chef judge to taste food prepared by a Top Chef contestant, or cheftestant as they are called by those in the know.

Next time you are in historic Frederick, Maryland, you might want to stop by Chef Bryan Voltaggio’s exceptional VOLT restaurant. This Top Chef owned eatery showcases seasonal entreés with classic flavor combinations prepared with fresh, local ingredients.

New Food Reality Show “United Plates of America” News

The following article is a press release issued by NBC. Any errors, typos, etc. are attributed to the original author. The release is reproduced solely for the dissemination of the enclosed information.

NBC ANNOUNCES NEW COMPETITION SERIES ‘UNITED PLATES OF AMERICA’ SERVING UP A CHANCE FOR CONTESTANTS TO CLAIM THE BIGGEST PRIZE IN REALITY SHOW HISTORY — OPENING A RESTAURANT CHAIN IN FOUR CITIES ACROSS AMERICA

One-of-a-kind Culinary and Business Competition Series to be Produced by Magical Elves, the Emmy Award-nominated Producers of “Project Runway” and “Top Chef”.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – November 19, 2009 – NBC announced today the new alternative-competitive series “United Plates of America” (working title) – from Magical Elves the Emmy Award-nominated producers of “Project Runway” and “Top Chef” — that will allow contestants to vie for arguably the biggest prize in reality show history — the opportunity to open a new restaurant chain in four cities across America.

The contestants’ fate will be decided by a panel of real investors who fund the chain of restaurants with their own money. As the competitors chase their American dream, viewers will also be fully engaged with interactive elements online at nbc.com.

The announcement was made by Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, NBC and Universal Media Studios.

“This is the first time the culinary and business worlds have come together in a big event series where the prize is one of the largest in reality TV history,” said Telegdy. “Not only will viewers get to watch the competition unfold, they’ll be able to eat at the winning restaurant immediately after the show’s finale.”

“This show is going to make the American Dream come true for someone out there – all they need is one great idea,” said executive producer Dan Cutforth.

Added executive producer, Jane Lipsitz, “With a prize of this magnitude, we believe this show will bring together everything we love about reality TV; creative passionate contestants, a dynamic panel of experts, and fierce competition.”

“United Plates of America” challenges its creative and ambitious contestants to realize their dream of opening the next great restaurant. However, achieving that goal requires substantial financial backing and business connections that few people can claim.

The winner will be selected by a panel of some of the most important names in both the dining and business worlds who will invest their own money in the final restaurant chain and have a huge stake in the game’s winner. Thousands of ideas will be narrowed down as each week the investors will put the chosen few through rigorous challenges to discover whose plan has the greatest potential for success. The stakes have never been higher for the contestants and the investors. The series will showcase larger-than-life personalities who will offer the hopeful restaurateurs expertise, support — and the kind of tough love it will take to overcome great odds. Ultimately, after a much-heated debate, the panel will choose the winning concept and decide whose idea will be America’s newest restaurant.

In 2009, the U.S. restaurant industry was a $566 billion business. “United Plates of America” will offer a lucky American who has a great idea the chance to be a vital part of that industry.

Prospective competitors can apply for a chance to be a contestant can log on to http://www.nbc.com/casting for more information.

“United Plates of America” is a Magical Elves production. Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz (the Emmy Award-nominated producers of “Project Runway” and “Top Chef”) are the executive producers.

Hold on to your Top Chef Knives

Word is that there is a shocking elimination next week!

According to a source, one of Top Chef‘s four top front-runners—Jennifer Carroll, Kevin Gillespie, Bryan Voltaggio and Mike Voltaggio—let the news slip by saying, “I got kicked off before the end.”

Who could it be?

Michael Voltaggio

The chef in question revealed this info a couple of weeks ago during a casual conversation with a new acquaintance in the jewelry district of downtown Los Angeles. It could be part of a Bravo misinformation campaign, but my source trusts their source, so I’m passing it along to you.

So who is the chef about to be chopped? It’s a mystery! I cannot believe it’s either of the Voltaggio brothers — please NO, and Kevin who reminds me of a Hobbit — is a genius, so that leaves Jennifer who has been letting the pressure get to her in recent challenges. I don’t want her to go, but I think it must be her…the knives are about to be let out of the bag!

All I can tell you is this one other thing — The chef in question is someone who has several wins under their belt, and looked to be one of the front runners to become the next Top Chef.

Top Chef Top Picks

If you haven’t seen this season’s Top Chef: Las Vegas, then you don’t live in my house. When I sit down for the latest episode, I prepare a dish to eat during the show. That way I feel like a contestant and a judge at the same time.

So who are the favorites in my house? I always pick two, because that’s the way I roll, although this season, I wish I could cheat and pick five. My first pick is Bryan Voltaggio, one of two brothers in this competition, and my second pick is Jennifer Carroll.  My other half (the man about the house) also has two picks, his first pick is Kevin Gillespie and his alternate is Michael Voltaggio, the younger brother of my guy.
